An introduction to some current research topics, built around the weekly Departmental seminar

Aims of the course

Provide students with background information that will make it easier to follow the weekly seminars.
Follow up on some of the statistical problems and research topics that emerge from the seminar.
Read some literature related to the themes of the seminar, such as brains, causality, and boosting.
Teach students to prepare and present effective seminars.
