Pity Mercer and de Paul didn't quit with Jubilation T. Cornpone, the only good song in the show. A couple of the others had potential, but didn't achieve it. The script itself was marvelously weak -- characters were at best illogical and at worst just flat idiotic. If the object was to badly caricaturize hillbillies, senators, and scientists, it worked all too well. The acting tended to be wooden, with only three decent performances: Julie Newmar, Stubby Kaye, and Stella Stevens. A shame they weren't enough to rescue the movie. The dancers were very good -- unfortunately the choreography was very poor.
On the up side -- it could have been longer...
